The park is just a few km north east of Arusha, by distance though the main gate is 25 km east of the city. It is also 58 km from Moshi and 35 km from Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA).

Location: 118 km southwest of Arusha.
The name of the park derived from the river which crosses at the middle of the park, the river is only the source of water for wild animals during dry seasons. The Tarangire River has shrivelled to a shadow of its wet season self. But it is choked with wildlife.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area was officially declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1979. The area consists of various landscapes and includes dense mountain forests, woodlands, grasslands, lakes
